School counselors design, implement, and maintain guidance programs that align with the educational mission and philosophies of their schools and school districts. School counselors provide solutions to help curb rates of school failure and dropout by addressing broader context that include personal, social, emotional, and career development. Additionally, school counselors because of their unique training and responsibility, have an influential role of helping students become more engaged in the academic and social arenas within the school. In this course, participants will explore and become familiar with the Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Model for Alabama Public Schools. Participants will also research and explore the effects of school guidance counselors’ programs on the academic achievement of students in various grade levels.
